Founded in 1987, First Stage Children's Theater has grown into one of the nation's leading professional children's theater companies. Among Milwaukee area theaters, it ranks second in ticket sales only to the Milwaukee Reparatory Theater.

First Stage is also one of the leading arts-in-education organizations in the state, boasting the second largest professional theater academy in the country.
Each year, thousands of children each year have their first theater experiences at First Stage, enjoying classics and popular favorites.

In addition to providing an inspirational training and rehearsal space, the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center houses First Stage Theater Academy, one of the largest theater arts education programs for young people in the country. Teaching Life Skills through Stage Skills, First Stage Theater Academy offers year-round classes that help develop self-confidence, leadership, discipline, integrity, commitment and teamwork.
