MILWAUKEE YOUTH SYMPHONY YOUTH ORCHESTRA (MYSO)
A Tradition of Excellence and a Commitment to Service

Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, the largest and one of the most respected youth orchestras in the country, provides comprehensive training in the finest techniques of orchestral and ensemble musicianship. Through an extensive program of rehearsals, performances, enrichment and outreach activities, the nearly 1200 talented young musicians ages 8-18 flourish under the direction of the highly qualified MYSO conductors and excellent staff, committed to sharing quality musical experiences with students of diverse backgrounds from the entire southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois areas.
The MYSO program consists of two full symphony orchestras, an advanced chamber orchestra, two levels of large string orchestras, one wind ensemble, a Jazz studies program, two flute choirs, the Progressions program (a partnership with Milwaukee Public Schools to offer string training to third and fourth grade students from underserved populations) and the newly formed steel drum training program Calypso. Additionally, MYSO holds alumni ensemble activities and provide performance opportunities focused on contemporary music.
MYSO students come from as many as 14 counties representing southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
